Position Overview

We are seeking a Media Consultant  to join our German team on a 6-month full-time consultancy. This role will support our campaigns through sharp media engagement as well as digital storytelling that mobilizes German audiences and engages decision-makers, with focus on our Gaza campaigns. The ideal candidate is digitally savvy, creative, and passionate about shaping narratives that move people to action.

This role reports to the Senior Campaign director leading our Gaza initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead media engagement in Germany: draft press releases, build and maintain media lists, and run press outreach.
  • Monitor German and European news, Bundestag debates, and cultural moments to seize campaign opportunities.
  • Research and pitch stories to German media outlets, including regional and local press.
  • Draft and edit campaign communications: newsletters, talking points, press kits, op-eds, and posts.
  • Provide quick-turnaround content for breaking news moments and political developments.
  • Create powerful content for social media, compelling posts, graphics, and short videos.
  • Coordinate with the Avaaz campaign, media and digital content teams to align on messaging and ensure cultural resonance for German audiences.

Skills & Qualities 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in German and English. Additional languages are a plus.
  • Wide experience in media relations, journalism, or social media management.
  • Strong understanding of the German political and media landscape.
  • Ability to frame complex issues in clear, compelling, emotionally resonant ways.
  • Creativity with visuals, storytelling, and digital engagement.
  • Focused and impact-oriented mindset, able to effectively work in a fast-paced, high-impact campaigning environment, managing shifting priorities and urgent deadlines.
  • High professionalism and delivery orientation, with proven ability to deliver high-quality work at speed, balancing accuracy, clarity, and impact under intense pressure or periods.
  • Sustaining performance through effective stress and workload management, to maintain high performance and personal wellbeing.
  • Strong collaboration skills across teams to deliver rapid, impactful campaigns while upholding Avaaz’s values and mission.
  • Passion for global justice, experience engaging responsibly with emotionally challenging global justice issues and imagery, demonstrating compassion and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in digital collaboration tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, media databases).

Location 

Avaaz is a virtual organization and most of our work is done online. Our staff are based in cities all over the world. For this role, we are seeking candidates who reside in Germany, preferably Berlin, but other cities and countries in the EMEA time zone will be considered, if the candidate is the best fit.

Avaaz will support you to set up a home or co-working environment that leads to excellence in delivery and long-term sustainability. 

Compensation and Benefits

The full-package salary for this position in Germany ranges from 57.000 - 65.000 EUR, based on experience and location.  

For successful candidates based outside of Germany, the final pay will be adjusted based on location and relevant experience. An accurate range in local currency will be provided to candidates during the screening process.
