Position Overview

The Palestinian people are facing one of the most painful chapters in their history, with over 30,000 people killed in Gaza, close to 10,000 imprisoned, and the expansion of violence in the West Bank. At this moment, the struggle for Palestinian rights is more urgent and important than ever, and this struggle must be led by Palestinian voices. This is why Avaaz is building a team that can help mobilize strategic, people-led local and global action that can help achieve the change needed. 

An essential role in this project, Campaigners work to create and deliver Palestine-focused campaigns in support of a ceasefire in Gaza and freedom for the Palestinian people. The role will focus on leading community research and campaigns, whilst driving volunteer engagement and action. The Campaigner will also be responsible for supporting the lead organizers in preparing for and setting up actions and events. This position will report to one of Avaaz’s Senior Campaign Directors, a leading international figure in the campaign movement for Palestinian rights.

Responsibilities

  • Playing a pivotal role in designing the campaign's overarching strategic vision, while also lending expertise to various campaign endeavors, such as fostering team synergy, cultivating talent, and spearheading transformative initiatives that drive progress..
  • Identifying opportunities to create impactful campaigns by keeping a pulse on events in Palestine and around the world
  • Leveraging collaborative partnerships with experts to craft strong and innovative strategies, policies, and communications
  • Supporting Campaign Directors in organizing campaign actions and logistics, from ad buys to public petition deliveries and direct action on the ground
  • Attracting audiences with compelling public speaking and well-designed media activities as well as galvanizing action through online content
  • An ability to write and translate information and campaigns into English and Arabic.

  • Brilliant project management skills with an ability to confidently engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and people
  • Creativity, strategic thinking, and campaign planning skills
  • Passion and commitment to global justice, citizen empowerment, and social change
  • A deep understanding of civic advocacy and the mechanics of public campaigning 
  • A diplomatic approach and underlying respect which drives and harnesses effective collaboration and project management amongst a diverse range of people and ensures that every voice matters
  • A keen enthusiasm for a wide range of global issues and an ability to transition swiftly between them whilst focusing on the details of each
  • Deep knowledge of Palestine and Palestinian advocacy spaces
  • Experience with both online and offline advocacy campaigning and building online communities
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to produce engaging and action-driven communications
  • Eagerness to explore new technologies and platforms to enhance campaign effectiveness
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is a requirement. Fluency in other languages is desirable.

Location

Our team's work will be predominantly on the ground in Palestine, with a virtual component where internal work is conducted over email, Google Suites, telephone, and Slack. This particular position will be based in Palestine.
