Position Overview

The Palestinian people are facing one of the most painful chapters in its history, with over 30,000 people killed in Gaza, close to 10,000 imprisoned, and escalating violence in the West Bank. At this moment, the struggle for Palestinian rights is more urgent and important than ever, and this struggle must be led by Palestinian voices. This is why Avaaz is building a team that can help mobilize strategic, people-led local and global action that can help achieve the change needed. 

Responsibilities

The Media Lead will play a key role that sits at the intersection of communications and movement building.This position involves collaborating closely with a social media consultancy to craft compelling campaign narratives, seize media opportunities, and ignite creative sparks that captivate audiences. This is a unique opportunity to shape Palestine’s political future in alignment with justice, equality, and human dignity. This position will report to one of Avaaz’s Senior Campaign Directors, a leading figure in the campaign movement for Palestinian rights.

  • Monitoring crucial news cycles and processes in key media markets 
  • Develop and implement creative media and communications strategies
  • Identify opportunities for strong media-led campaigns and moments to use media to advance campaigns
  • Write media materials, talking points and briefings for staff and spokespersons
  • Leading the planning and execution of both physical and digital campaigns, including physical actions and stunts with short turnaround and media engagement
  • Supporting the development of creative tactics, story-telling for our campaigns and strong talking points
  • Rewriting communications in other languages, depending on proficiency
  • Public speaking in the media and on social media
  • Publishing and editing online content.

  • You have experience of designing creative media-focused campaign tactics and strategies that captivate hearts and minds.
  • You can use your expert media pitching skills to passionately advocate and persuade reporters and editors, cultivating meaningful relationships throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and beyond.
  • Strong spokesperson skills and ability to train others in the art of impactful communication.
  • You are keen to apply your analytical skills to measure the effectiveness of communication initiatives, ensuring our efforts drive tangible progress towards global justice and citizen empowerment.
  • Passion and commitment to global justice, citizen empowerment and social change.
  • Strong teamwork skills, comfortable in a highly collaborative team culture and a hierarchical team structure.
  • Enthusiasm for a wide range of global issues, and a readiness to move swiftly between them while rapidly focusing on the details of each.
  • Proficient in Google Suite and online communication systems (Slack, Zoom, etc).
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is a requirement. Fluency in other languages is desirable.

Location

Our team's work will be predominantly on-the-ground, with internal work conducted over email, Google Suites, telephone, and Slack. This particular position will be preferably based in Palestine, but we’re open to remote work options.
